Green is Having a Moment in design and I’m Kind of Loving It!
From deep, blue-green muddy hues to fresh, bright cool tones, green is making a serious comeback, and I’m here for it! The versatility this color brings to any space is undeniable, whether it’s used in subtle accents or as a bold statement. But I have to admit—this newfound love for green wasn’t always in the cards for me.
I’ll never confess this to my husband, but 12 years ago, when I was pregnant with our son, we moved into a “move-in ready” home. I thought we could just settle in and start our lives, but let’s just say the home had a lot of green. Picture 90’s oak furniture, forest green walls (each room in a different shade of green), green kitchen countertops, and even green vinyl floors. It was, well, a lot of green.
Pregnant me decided I absolutely hated the color green. So, naturally, I went on a mission to remove every trace of it from our lives. Week by week, room by room, I managed to strip the “green” from our home. My poor husband was less than thrilled at the idea of painting the entire house, but I was determined!
Fast forward to today, and guess what? I’m finally ready to bring green back—both into my own home and into my client projects. Over the past year, I’ve found myself working with green more and more. While I’ve always gravitated toward whites and blues, there’s something so refreshing about incorporating green again.
Project Montebello / Cassabella
For one of our recent projects, we drew inspiration from nature, bringing the outside in.
The color palette focused on earthy greens and warm wood tones. The standout feature?
A stunning subway tile in the primary bathroom that added the perfect “wow factor” we were aiming for. We used Creekside Tiles' Artist Series, which really brought the whole look together. Check out the tiles here.
Project Mountain star
Another project where green played a starring role was the Mountain Star project. While designing the guest bathroom, we stumbled upon a stunning slab of granite with beautiful moss green, grey, and brown tones. The striking colors of the granite immediately inspired the rest of the design. We paired it with neutral shower tiles to allow the granite to shine. To tie the space together, we used Julian Tile's Smoke Kit Kat tile, a fun mosaic with a subtle green undertone that perfectly complemented the granite’s natural hues. See the tile here.
Project Montebello / SettebelloIn another Montebello project, we went with Sherwin-Williams' Rare Grey, a neutral color that blends green and gray seamlessly. This soft, soothing hue worked perfectly in the bathroom, creating a calm and cohesive space.
Project Beer FarmersOne of my favorite projects has to be this 60’s-inspired home design. The space had so many fun retro elements—think wall paneling and bold, vintage features. We started the design with a playful wallpaper that set the tone for the whole space.
We knew a white kitchen wasn’t the way to go, and yellow felt a bit too bold, so we decided on a soft, cool green-gray (Sherwin-Williams' Comfort Gray) to complement the yellow accents. The result? A kitchen that felt fresh, retro, and perfectly balanced.
So, here I am, embracing green in all its forms once again. It’s a color that’s timeless, versatile, and surprisingly refreshing—and I’m excited to see how it continues to play a role in both my personal and professional spaces.
Accessorizing a room with green accents is one of the easiest and most effective ways to elevate a space from flat to stylish. What I’ve learned through our recent design projects is that green isn’t just a color—it’s an experience. In the Beer Farmers project, we used deep forest green to create a mood that felt both calming and inviting. This rich hue helped set the tone for the entire room, turning it into a serene retreat.
To bring the design to life, we incorporated plants and greenery, adding layers of texture and vibrancy to the space. Not only did the plants breathe life into the room, but they also tied in perfectly with the bedding, creating a cohesive and soothing atmosphere. The combination of green accents, both in color and natural elements, helped transform the room into a space that feels warm, welcoming, and full of character.
So to wrap it all up... Designing in green has a unique ability to transform a space in ways that no other color can. It connects us to nature, brings a sense of calm and balance, and adds both warmth and freshness to any room. Whether it’s a rich, deep forest green that creates a mood of tranquility, or a soft sage that evokes peacefulness, green has the versatility to suit any style or atmosphere.
In our recent projects, we’ve seen how green can breathe life into a room—whether through paint, accents, or natural greenery. It’s a color that doesn’t just fill a space; it enhances it, creating environments that feel grounded, refreshing, and full of energy. Green is no longer just a color on a palette—it’s an experience, a way to connect spaces with the natural world and make them feel alive. And that’s why i am coming back around to green!
